About the Project
Khassa River Dam is a dam project built for water storage and regulation in the Kirkuk region of Iraq. Bend Yapı Company undertook the dam’s concrete structures and earthworks for the clients Nursoy İnşaat Taahhüt A.Ş. and Brilliant Role Group.
In the project, the sill section of the dam body was built in concrete, and the spillway and bottom outlet structures that allow water to pass in a controlled way were completed together with the body.
Scope of Work
- Concrete works for the sill structure of the dam body
- Construction of the spillway structure
- Construction of the bottom outlet (intake structure)
- Excavation and fill works for the body and structures
The Role of Spillways in Dam Structures
The spillway is a safety structure that conveys excess water downstream without damaging the dam body when the reservoir level rises. The bottom outlet is located at the lower level of the body; it serves for water intake, emptying the reservoir and managing the water level during maintenance periods.
